What injuries can occur in a car accident?

Almost every Dayton area driver will be involved in a motor vehicle accident at least once in their driving career. Most of these accidents are minor fender benders, but, occasionally, serious motor vehicle accidents can occur. These wrecks can involve injuries, some of which are major.

There are many different types of injuries a person can suffer in a car accident. A head injury is one of the most serious injuries a person can suffer. Head injuries can lead to traumatic brain injuries that can affect a person for the rest of their lives. Often, long-term care and extensive medical treatment is required.

Back injuries are also common in car accidents. Spinal cord injuries can lead to permanent paralysis. Or, a person could suffer from a herniated disc, which results in tingling, numbing, or arm and leg pain. Neck and chest injuries can also occur. Whiplash is one of the most well-known car accident injuries. It occurs due to the sudden movement of the head and neck. Neck muscle and ligament damage can occur from whiplash. Chest trauma can also occur, resulting in broken ribs, collapsed lungs, and other serious issues.

If a family has a loved one who has been injured in a car accident due to no fault of their own, they may want to speak with an attorney who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney can visit the accident scene and interview witnesses, review the police report, and help the family determine what happened. They can hold the negligent party responsible for their mistake. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, future medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
